Shampoos, conditioners, treatments, oils, primers -- you name it. Hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars have been spent in pursuit of luscious, flowing locks. But whatever goop you try, or however many raw eggs you crack onto your hair in the shower, it's hard to tell if anything actually works.

L'Oreal, Kerastase and Withings are looking to change that with the Kerastase Hair Coach Powered by Withings, announced today at CES. And what exactly is a Hair Coach? A smart brush, of course.

The brush makes use of Withings' sensors and "signal analysis" algorithms developed by L'Oreal's Research and Innovation Technology Incubator to evaluate the health of your hair, as well as measure the impact of different hair care routines.

It works via a microphone, 3-axis load cells, an accelerometer, gyroscope and conductivity sensors. These sensors can apparently determine if you have split ends, how hard you're brushing, notify you if you're brushing too hard and identify if your hair is wet or dry.

Like most smart devices, the brush transmits everything to a mobile app via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth so you can actually keep track of all that hairy data. The app also lets you factor in things like humidity, temperature, UV and wind conditions, on top of giving tips and recommendations.

The Kerastase Hair Coach will be available through Kerastase and Withings in mid-2017, and will retail for under $200.

If you already have great hair, Withings also has a new smart HD security camera, Home Plus, which "can be used to keep an eye on your home, receive notifications in case of unusual noise or movement, monitor indoor pollution or watch your baby with advanced baby monitoring features," the company says.

Stream content to your phone via the iOS or Android app; it's also compatible with Apple HomeKit. Look for it this quarter for $199.

Meanwhile, Withings announced that the Steel HR watch it first showed off at IFA in Berlin will be available globally online starting Jan. 4 and in stores mid-month.
