Linda Yaccarino is officially the CEO of Twitter.

Musk announced the news via the social media platform on Friday afternoon.

The billionaire announced Thursday afternoon that he found a new Twitter CEO to replace him in the role that he has held since officially purchasing the company in October 2022.

On Twitter, of course, the rumor mills churned into the evening about who the unknown hire could be. On Thursday, Bloomberg reported that NBCUniversal's Linda Yaccarino was the mystery candidate in talks to lead the social media platform, per a "person familiar with the matter" at the time.

NBC announced that Yaccarino would be leaving her position as Chairman of Global Advertising and Partnerships at the company early Friday morning.

"Behind any show, on any screen, there's an entire economic and technology infrastructure at work. No person has had a bigger hand in shaping it than Linda Yaccarino," her online bio at NBC reads. "She is the strategic and operational bridge across the entirety of NBCUniversal's global networks, properties, and business units … Yaccarino oversees all Global, National and Local Ad Sales, Partnerships, Marketing, Ad Tech, Data, Measurement, and Strategic Initiatives."

Yaccarino and Musk took the stage together last month at MMA's POSSIBLE Miami Event 2023 where they spoke in conversation for the keynote event called Twitter 2.0: From Conversations to Partnerships.

The search is finally over — Elon Musk has decided who he is hiring to take over his interim role as CEO of Twitter.

Musk announced the news via Twitter where he confirmed that his successor would be starting in about six weeks and that they use "she" pronouns, though no other details were confirmed.

In March, it was rumored that active Twitter exec and CEO of The Boring Company, Steve Davis, was positioned to take over for Musk, though neither Davis nor Musk confirmed (or even commented) on the rumors.

Musk made it public that he would be stepping down from the CEO role in December after polling his Twitter followers about whether or not he should resign.

About 57.5% of respondents voted that he should step down, leading Musk to tell followers that once he found someone to fill the role, he would "just run the software & servers teams" at Twitter.

This is a developing story.
